Custom Label Tips and Guidelines

Here are a few things to think about as you’re making labels.

  • Keep everything well within the dashed cutlines shown on the customization page. It’s not only important to ensure things don’t get cut off when printed, but from a design perspective things just don’t look good when they’re uncomfortably close to an edge; leave some space near the edges.
  • Use high resolution photos for uploading; they don’t have to be huge, just make sure they’re not pixelated. Many customers have uploaded tiny pixelated screenshots from a webpage and then been disappointed with how that prints.
  • Use the customization tools that are available- align text to center or move it to a new position, change font color if it gets obscured by an uploaded photo, etc.
  • Make sure the label size is appropriate for your bottle or can, always leave at least .5 inch from the edge of the label to where the bottle or can starts to curve.
  • If you have a lot of text or different things to communicate, consider adding a back label for more utilitarian information and keep the front label mostly visual appeal.
  • Text should be easy to read, so make sure your font size is appropriate, especially with elaborate fonts or when using lightly colored text on a black background. Go as crazy as you want with the beverage name, what kind of drink it is, etc. But we recommend utilitarian text like alcohol, sentences describing it, etc, should be less styled fonts so they’re easier to read. Remember everything looks much bigger on your screen than it does on the actual label.
